AWS introduces AI-based software development methodology

Amazon Web Services (AWS) introduced a new AI-based software development methodology today. Called the AI-Driven Development Lifecycle (AI-DLC), this framework claims to put AI at the center of software development.
The announcement was made by Swami Sivasubramanian, VP of Agentic AI at the AWS DevSphere, a developer conference held in Bengaluru on Friday. AI-DLC is an openly accessible AI-native methodology designed to help organizations use AI in the software development process for building complex systems at scale with tools and frameworks such as Kiro, Amazon Q Developer, and Strands Agents. AI-DLC is available now as a freely accessible methodology on AWS, and as a custom workflow in Amazon’s integrated development environment Kiro.
AI-LDC aims at applying AI at each stage of software development, from inception to construction to operation, with human oversight. According to AWS, it will help developers to focus on strategic work while AI handles implementation tasks such as workflow orchestration, task breakdown, coding, testing, and deployments.

At the event, Wipro’s chief technology officer said that the IT services firm was able to build four production-ready modules within just 20 hours by implementing AI-DLC methodology and using Amazon Q developer. Notably, at the first-quarter financial result announcement in July, Wipro CEO Srini Pallia said that the company has increased the deployment of AI solutions across industry segments.
Other Indian businesses such as S&P Global, Wipro, HackerRank, and Dhan, among others, are also leveraging AI-LDC.
According to research firm MarketsandMarkets, the market for AI code tools is projected to grow from $4.3 billion in 2023 to $12.6 billion by 2028, with a CAGR of 24.0%. Some forecasts project even higher figures, reaching $27.17 billion by 2032.

AI is increasingly becoming a part of developers’ daily lives. Saas firm Salesforce’s CEO Mark Benioff recently said that 30-50% of the work at the company is performed by AI, specifically in jobs such as software development. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella and Google’s head boss Sundar Pichai also made similar claims on AI-generated code.
Beyond AI-LDC, AWS announced a new initiative called AWS AI-Native Builders Community, a peer-to-peer network of technology leaders.
