Hyderabad-headquartered datacentre provider CtrlS Datacenters, on Thursday, announced the launch of its first greenfield facility in Kolkata. The new centre marks a significant step in strengthening digital infrastructure in eastern India.

Situated at Bengal Silicon Valley in New Town, the site is the region’s first Rated-4 datacentre and the first development under the company’s ₹2,200 crore plan to build an advanced datacentre ecosystem in the east.

The facility delivers 16 MW of IT load capacity in its initial phase and is planned to expand across four phases to more than 60 MW, meeting growing demand from enterprises, government agencies and hyperscalers. It has been designed to handle high-performance workloads, including AI applications, and to support large-scale operations efficiently.

Sridhar Pinnapureddy, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of CtrlS Datacenters, said the opening marks a milestone in the company’s aim to make high-quality datacentre infrastructure available across India. He added that eastern India is on the verge of rapid digital growth, supported by favourable government policies.

According to Kallol Sen, Executive Vice President and Regional CEO for Kolkata, the city’s location offers a strategic advantage as a gateway to eastern and northeastern India and neighbouring countries. He said the local talent pool and government backing make it an ideal base for AI-ready datacentre infrastructure.

The Kolkata facility is built to meet LEED Platinum standards for sustainability and features advanced cooling systems, high-density rack provision, dual power sources, and connectivity to multiple ISPs, cloud providers and internet exchanges. It is also designed to be resilient against natural disasters, complying with Seismic Zone 3 standards.

In April, the company announced plans to set up a new greenfield datacentre in Bhopal with an investment of ₹500 crore. The facility will be developed on a five-acre plot at Badwai IT Park, allocated by the Madhya Pradesh government, and was unveiled during the Tech Growth Conclave 2025 in Indore.

The datacentre will support high-performance cloud computing, artificial intelligence workloads and large-scale data processing for enterprises across central India. It is projected to generate around 200 jobs during different stages of its construction and operations.

Founded in 2007, CtrlS now has over 15 datacentres in cities, including Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Patna,  Lucknow, and now Kolkata, among others.
