Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has launched a new Artificial Intelligence-driven operations centre in Mexico City.

The new facility is TCS’ eighth operations centre in Mexico, where the company has built a strong workforce of more than 11,000 professionals over the past 22 years. The centre is expected to generate significant employment opportunities over the next two years, focusing on roles for Artificial Intelligence (AI) specialists, software engineers, and experts in emerging enterprise technologies.

The Mexico City hub will serve as an innovation engine, providing a wide range of solutions including AI, cloud, cybersecurity, IoT, IT infrastructure, application development, and cognitive business operations. By establishing this centre, TCS aims to consolidate its role as a strategic partner in Mexico’s digital transformation while fostering an inclusive and competitive technology ecosystem.

Marcelo Wurmann, CEO – Latin America, TCS, said, “Since we began operations in Mexico, over two decades ago, we have recognised that this country is a key pillar of our growth in Latin America. We will continue to support our clients on their transformation journeys, offering solutions and services that address the most complex challenges in this rapidly changing business landscape.”

Over the years, Mexico has become a hub for TCS’ new-tech initiatives, with specialised units such as the Cognitive Business Operations Centre in Guadalajara and the Threat Management Centre in Querétaro. The company serves more than 400 major clients in the region, including Cemex, Febraban, Banamex, and Bradesco.

Notably, the launch of the centre and the resulting employment generation news comes in close heels with TCS’ decision to lay off 2% of its workforce, that is 12,000 people by early next year, primarily in middle and senior management roles. While many speculate AI and automation behind the layoffs, TCS CEO K Krithivasan said the employees were being let go due to skill mismatch.
