Reliance Industries launches AI unit; announces partnership with Google, Meta

Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries Limited introduced a new, wholly-owned subsidiary to build advanced AI services in India. Called Reliance Intelligence, the new unit will work to scale AI adoption in the country by focusing on infrastructure, partnership, services and talent. The announcement was made at the conglomerate’s annual general meeting (AGM), on Friday.
Under this endeavour, the company has outlined four goals – developing gigawatt-scale, AI-ready data centres in Jamnagar; partnering with global technology leaders and open-source communities; deploying AI solutions across sectors; and attracting world-class AI talent to India. To this end, Reliance has forged two high-stakes partnerships with Google and Meta.
With Google, Reliance is setting up a Jamnagar Cloud region. This cloud region will deliver Google Cloud’s AI and compute capabilities, powered by Reliance’s clean energy and connected through Jio’s advanced network.

"The AI opportunity in India is extraordinary. It will transform every industry and organisation – from the largest enterprises to the smallest kirana store. Google and Reliance are partnering to help all of Reliance's businesses transform, using AI – from Energy and Retail to Telecom and Financial Services," Pichai said.
Further, Facebook-parent Meta announced a partnership with Reliance to develop enterprise AI solutions on its Llama large language model (LLM).
Under this joint venture, Reliance will leverage Meta’s open-source LLM to build solutions for areas such as sales, marketing, IT, customer service, finance, and more. The JV will introduce a secure full-stack environment for Indian enterprises to customise and deploy generative AI applications and offer a suite of pre‑configured AI solutions for cross‑functional and industry‑specific use cases.

By integrating Meta's Llama models with RIL's digital foundation, the JV will be able to scale high-performance models at a fraction of a cost, the company claims. Jio's connectivity network and RIL's advanced AI data centers will be pivotal in lowering inference costs and ensuring secure, low-latency AI deployments. With lower entry costs for advanced AI tools, SMBs and startups could more readily adopt AI-driven solutions. Additionally, the JV will have the flexibility to deploy solutions over the cloud, on-premise, and across its own infrastructure.
“We’re excited to deepen our partnership with Reliance to bring the power of open‑source AI to Indian developers and enterprises. Through this joint venture, we’re putting Meta’s Llama models into real-world use, and I’m looking forward to Meta expanding its footprint in the enterprise space as we unlock new possibilities together,” Meta co-founder and CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, said.
Notably, Reliance today announced the launch of Jio Frames, an AI-powered wearable platform with support for multiple Indian languages. This directly rivals Meta’s AI Glasses.

It may be noted that during last year’s annual meeting, the company made a slew of artificial intelligence-related announcements. The main highlights were Jio Brain, Jio AI-Cloud, and a national AI infrastructure, among others.
