Atlassian opens new R&D facility in Bengaluru to support global product development

Atlassian, the maker of workplace collaboration tools such as Jira, Confluence, and Loom, has opened a new research and development (R&D) centre in Bengaluru. The facility, spread over more than 200,000 square feet, is four times the size of its previous office in the city.

The centre is built to support Atlassian’s “Team Anywhere” model, which allows employees to work from any location, including home or office. The facility includes flexible workstations, collaboration areas, wellness zones, and technology-enabled spaces for hybrid teams working across different time zones.

India is one of Atlassian’s fastest-growing R&D locations and is central to the company’s global product development. About 75 percent of its India workforce is involved in R&D, working on areas such as enterprise search, data residency, commerce, and customer success, the company said.

Rajeev Rajan, Chief Technology Officer at Atlassian said, “India continues to be one of our most important R&D hubs, and Bengaluru sits at the heart of this growth. This new world-class R&D Centre is more than just a larger space, it’s a symbol of our investment in the future of work, in distributed teamwork, and most importantly, in the exceptional talent we have here in India.”

Avani Prabhakar, Chief People Officer at Atlassian said, “Our Team Anywhere approach allows us to attract and retain top talent, regardless of location. We have Atlassians in almost every Indian state - tapping into the amazing skillsets across the country, as well as metro cities.”
