Tata Power adopts Databricks platform to scale enterprise data, AI across operations

Tata Power has signed an enterprise-wide agreement with Databricks to build a unified data and AI platform, replacing fragmented analytics systems spread across its business units.

The move is aimed at consolidating data from grid operations, renewable energy assets, solar manufacturing, rooftop businesses, and customer-facing services into a single platform capable of processing information at scale and generating near real-time insights.

The company will use Databricks to run advanced analytics, AI models, and automated agents across functions, including power planning, billing, renewable energy forecasting, and grid management. A key part of the rollout is the deployment of Genie, a Databricks AI tool that allows employees to query enterprise data using natural language and receive structured insights without needing technical expertise.

For Tata Power, the push into AI infrastructure comes as its business model grows more complex. The company is managing a mix of conventional and renewable energy assets while expanding its direct-to-consumer portfolio. Grid flexibility, accurate demand forecasting, and faster decision-making are increasingly tied to how well the company can process and act on data across these diverse operations.

The platform will also serve as the foundation for self-service analytics, allowing teams across the organization to access data without routing requests through central IT.

Dr Praveer Sinha, CEO & MD, Tata Power said, “By leveraging the power of data and AI, we are strengthening our digital foundation to drive smarter operations, accelerate renewable integration, and deliver more agile, customer-centric solutions while contributing to a resilient and sustainable power sector.”

“Tata Power’s decision to standardize on Databricks underscores the growing importance of data and AI in transforming the energy sector. As they build a unified, enterprise-wide platform, we are excited to support their journey toward smarter, more efficient operations,” said Kamalkanth Tummala, Managing Director for India at Databricks.
