Niva Bupa moves core policy systems to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

Niva Bupa Health Insurance said on Monday it is migrating its on-premises core policy administration systems to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), as it looks to improve operational efficiency, scale technology resources and accelerate the launch of new products and services.
The migration is part of Niva Bupa’s broader technology modernisation strategy and will consolidate elements of its technology environment while automating the monitoring, patching and scaling of its core policy systems.

For an insurer handling growing customer and transaction volumes, the move is aimed at creating a more scalable technology foundation for policy administration and digital servicing. Niva Bupa said the cloud migration will also strengthen the security, governance and resilience of its data and systems.

“Technology is central to our ambition of making quality healthcare more accessible through trusted and reliable health insurance,” said Dhiresh Rustogi, chief technology officer, Niva Bupa Health Insurance. “By simplifying our technology environment and automating critical infrastructure processes, we can improve operational efficiency while creating greater capacity to innovate.”

Rustogi said the increased technology agility would help the insurer develop and launch products and services faster as customer requirements evolve. Niva Bupa is also exploring the use of artificial intelligence to enhance customer experience, decision-making and other business processes.

The insurer, which was founded in 2008, serves customers through digital platforms and partner networks across India and offers health, travel and related insurance products to individuals, families and businesses.

The migration to OCI will allow Niva Bupa to adjust computing resources in line with business requirements, particularly as customer and transaction volumes increase. The insurer said this would support more reliable digital and policy servicing experiences while providing a foundation for adopting emerging technologies, including AI.

For Niva Bupa, the move shifts core policy administration workloads from on-premises infrastructure to a cloud environment designed to scale with business requirements. The insurer expects the greater flexibility to support its growth while reducing the operational effort involved in managing core infrastructure.

“OCI will provide Niva Bupa with a high-performance cloud platform to help strengthen the resilience and security of its critical systems, while supporting evolving business requirements,” said Vivek Gupta, senior director and head, Technology Cloud, Oracle India.

The migration also reflects a broader shift in insurers’ technology strategies, where modernising core systems is becoming closely linked to the ability to launch products, integrate digital channels and deploy newer technologies. Niva Bupa said the OCI environment would provide the underlying technology foundation as it evaluates further applications of AI across its business.
