Foodpanda, a global, multi-location online food ordering platform backed by Rocket Internet, has named Rohit Chadda as its second managing director in India. He will also serve as the product head for Asia region.
Amit Kohli, part of the original team running the venture in India, will continue as MD and focus on sales and marketing.
Chadda will concentrate on optimising operations and customer experience on the site. A mechanical engineer, he spent a few years at Merrill Lynch after completing his MBA from IIM Calcutta. He joined Foodpanda in January 2013.
The global firm recently secured a fresh round of funding worth $20 million. But it did not disclose how much of that funding would be put into Indian operations.
"At present, we have partnered with 2,000 restaurants out of which 1,800 are active. We aim at securing a dominant share of the estimated Rs 5,000 crore food delivery market in India in the next five years. Having already launched in 10 cities, we target scaling the company's growth to 16 cities with 5,000 partner restaurants within this year," Chadda told Techcircle.in.
He also said that the food ordering market is growing faster than food retailing and over the next five years, the former will increase at 30-40 per cent, compared to 25 per cent annual growth in food retailing.
