Acer Iconia A1-830 tablet launched for Rs 11,299; Lenovo A8-50 available for Rs 17,999

Within days of launching the Iconia A1-713 voice-calling tablet in India, Acer has added yet another device to its tablet portfolio. Unveiled at the Consumers Electronic Show (CES) in January this year, the Iconia A1-830 tablet sports a 7.9 inch screen and has been priced at Rs 11,299 in the country.

Taking a cue from the success of Motorola and Chinese smartphone sensation Xiaomi, Acer's tablet offering is also available for purchase exclusively on Indian e-commerce major Flipkart.com.

In addition, Chinese multinational computer technology company Lenovo has launched a new device in the Indian tablet market. Christened Lenovo A8-50, this one has a slightly larger 8 inch screen and is priced at Rs 17,999. Both the tablets run on the Android operating system.

Acer Iconia A1-830 for Rs 11,299

AcerThe tablet has a 7.9 inch LED-backlit IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen display (1024×768 pixels resolution) and runs on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system. It is powered by a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom Z2560 dual-core processor and has 1GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 16GB that can be further expanded an additional 32GB with a microSD card.

Iconia A1-830 has a 5 mega pixel auto focus rear camera that can also record videos and a 2MP front facing camera for video calls. On the connectivity front, it has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, a microSD card slot and a microUSB port.

The dimensions of the device are 138.4mm x 203mm x 8.15mm and its weight is 375 gm. The tablet is has a 4,000 mAh battery that the company claims will provide up to seven and a half hours of high definition video playback. The device comes with GPS & dual stereo speakers, and is be available in white colour.

As an introductory offer, Flipkart is offering a number of freebies with the device, which includes free eBooks worth Rs 1,500, free Sennheiser HD 180 headphones, and a 68 per cent discount on a one-year subscription of any digital magazine from the India Today Group.

Lenovo A8-50 for Rs 17,999

LenovoThis one sports an 8 inch IPS touchscreen display (1280×800 pixels resolution) and runs on the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean operating system (upgradable to Android 4.4 KitKat). It is powered by a 1.3 GHz MediaTek MTK 8382 quad-core processor and has 1GB of RAM. The internal memory of the device is 16GB that can be further expanded an additional 32GB with a microSD card.

Similar to Acer's offering, the Lenovo tablet also has a 5MP rear camera that can record videos and a 2MP front facing camera for video calling. On the connectivity front, it has Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and 3G, as well as a microUSB port and a microSD card slot. It has GPS (with A-GPS support) and front-facing speakers with Dolby Digital Plus audio.

While the exact dimensions of the device are not available as of now, its 9mm thick and weighs 350 gm. The tablet is has a 4,200 mAh battery that Lenovo claims will provide up to 11 hours of talk time and up to 20 days of standby time. Lenovo A8-50 comes with SIM support for voice calling, which basically means it can be used like a tablet or a regular phone. It is available in a range of colours that include yellow, red, white and blue.

In addition, the tablet comes pre-loaded with Lenovo's new DOit series of apps that will enable it to share data with other Android devices without requiring a network, prevent viruses and malware, and back up the user's contacts and SMS log.
