Uber unveils its second centre of excellence in India

San Francisco headquartered ride hailing giant Uber Technologies has launched its new centre of excellence (CoE) in Visakhapatnam to offer customer support to its users.

The centre is expected to create  500 new jobs and will offer support to its customers in India, South Asia and Asia Pacific regions, according to a statement. 

“With the launch of the second CoE in India, we aim to reiterate our deep commitment to India by bringing safer and responsible mobility solutions to our riders,” said Wen-Szu Lin, senior director, community operations for the Asia Pacific at Uber.

Uber said that the new facility is the twelfth CoE globally. The others are situated in Chicago (US), Phoenix (US), Limerick (Ireland), Lisbon (Portugal), Cairo (Egypt), Krakow (Poland), Costa Rica, Sao Paulo (Brazil), Manila (Philippines), Pampanga (Philippines) and Hyderabad (India).

Uber launched its first India centre of excellence in Hyderabad back in 2015. The facility has over a thousand employees.

Last month, Uber India Systems, the local arm Uber Technologies had raised $246 million from parent entities Uber International Holding and Uber International. The company issued 1.1 crore shares to the two holding companies.

According to Dara Khosrowshahi, Uber’s global CEO, the company will be doubling the headcount at its Hyderabad and Bengaluru research and development centres. The company has trimmed its workforce globally
