Pune-based IT major Tech Mahindra has partnered with Singapore and Hyderabad-based digital supply chain solutions provider StaTwig to roll out a blockchain-based traceability solution for global vaccine supply.
The solution, called VaccineLedger, will help to predict and prevent failures in supply chains, including problems such as counterfeit products, expired vaccines and out of stock scenarios.
“This will not only ensure safety and validity of vaccine supply but also helps in adherence to complex regulatory requirements, set up by Drug Administration Authority in any country,” said Rajesh Dhuddu, blockchain and cybersecurity practice leader - APAC and EMEA, Tech Mahindra.
The solution aims to address traditional supply chain systems that are limited by IT infrastructure boundaries and data in silos. The blockchain solution will create peer-to-peer bridges on current systems and will also help with real time data sharing, validation and authentication, the company said.
The data provided will include the likes of IoT integration, smart contracts, inventory management and vendor payments, along with the usual track and trace capabilities.
The partnership will also help build a global consortium of vaccine researchers, governments, pharmaceutical companies, distributors and healthcare workers.
Founded in 2016 by Ravi Kumar and Sid Chakravarthy, StaTwig provides solutions in the areas of IoT, machine learning, customer analytics and blockchain, mainly aimed towards supply chain.
StaTwig will utilise Tech Mahindra’s sales and customer network, balance sheet support, scalability and system integration knowledge to ramp up reach for VaccineLedger.
Furthermore, Tech Mahindra also said that it has invested in co-development and testing of various enterprise security modules of the solution’s web and mobile applications to make them more suitable for manufacturers and state governments.
“With VaccineLedger, we are aiming to re-design and re-engineer the traditional supply chain information systems to give continuous visibility and complete traceability,” said Sid Chakravarthy, Founder and CEO, StaTwig.
