Online education platform Coursera has highlighted the most popular professional courses at the entry level in India. According to the company, Indian users of its service chose Google’s entry-level professional certificate course in data analytics as their most preferred one in 2021.

Data published by Coursera stated that of its top 10 professional certification courses pursued by users in India, Google and IBM appeared to be in most demand. Both the companies accounted for four courses each, making for eight of the top 10 entry-level professional courses that were in demand among Indian users.

The top 10 courses list, apart from Google’s data analytics certificate course, includes UX (user experience) design, project management and IT support by Google in the top four spots. IBM’s certificate course in data science ranked fifth, ahead of Facebook’s social media marketing certificate course at sixth.

The next three spots were taken by IBM’s data analyst certificate, cyber security analyst certificate and full stack cloud developer certificates. The tenth most popular course was listed as Salesforce’s sales operations certificate.

Entry-level professional courses are typically pursued as upskilling certificate courses by graduates and early-stage professionals. According to Coursera, a course of such nature may last between three to nine months, and some of the most popular areas of study include data analytics, data science, cyber security and machine learning — among others.

The list is a reflection of how online certification courses have risen to prominence — particularly in the aftermath of the covid-19 pandemic. Remote learning is being increasingly adopted across all education tiers, with its biggest impact coming at a school level in rural markets.
