Paytm unveils platform to offer courses on trading, finance

Paytm has rolled out a platform that will offer courses on trading and financial concepts, besides webinars in different languages. 

The platform called the Paytm Wealth Academy will be offered via one-year subscription or through paid webinars. Initially, it will be launched on the Paytm money app, the company said in a statement.  

It is pertinent to mention here that, stock trading platfrom Zerodha also has its own such iteration through Zerodha Varsity, while AngleBroking has a platform called as Smart Money to educate users about stock markets and its strategies.

“The platform will help users build a strong understanding of financial markets, especially F&O and intraday traders. Such users are likely to be better traders and stay longer in the market,” said Varun Sridhar, CEO of Paytm Money.   

According to the Indian central securities depositories National Securities Depository Limited (NSDL) and Central Depository Services (CDSL), retail investors in India increased by 14.2 million in the 2021 fiscal, with 12.25 million DEMAT accounts being opened on CDSL and 1.9 million in NSDL.   

While in 2016 the retail investor share on the National Stock Exchange was at 33%, it currently stands at 45%.

Paytm said that its courses can be personalised based on user interactions and the time spent on the topic, thereby making the learning process more efficient.  

The platform will utilise video and audio along with the text to let users start learning from an appropriate stage.   

The courses will be available on categories such as stock investing, futures and options and technical analysis.

The one year subscription plan for the course will cost Rs 1,200, while those including all of the webinars will have to pay Rs 4,500. Besides, users can attend individual webinars for between Rs 500 to Rs 1,000, the company added.
