Lenovo has launched a 5G-ready Windows notebook, ThinkPad X13s, which runs on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 processor and promises up to 28 hours of battery backup. The notebook was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2022, which started on February 28 and will conclude on March 3. This laptop will be available in stores from May 2022 at a starting price of €1399 (approx. ₹1,18,079).

With the shift to hybrid work, there is a greater demand for notebooks that can deliver more battery backup on a single charge. It is one of the reasons why more brands are using ARM-based processors in notebooks. Apple’s M1 series chips which are also based on ARM architecture claim battery backup of up to 20 hours.

Lenovo claims the notebook has been designed for hybrid workers and professionals on the move. The laptop has fan-less design and uses a low temperature solder method that, as per the company, can reduce carbon emissions by up to 35%. In addition to solid battery performance the notebook also offers a compact form factor. It has a 13.3-inch display with up to 400 nits of brightness and weighs just 1.06kg.

The notebook also has a dedicated communications bar at the top, which includes a 5-megapixel camera and an infrared camera along with triple microphones that can subdue noise during calls. The notebook also uses a computer vision processor for user authentication and to reduce power consumption by automatically turning down the display brightness levels when the user looks away.

The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 is built on a 5nm (nanometer) architecture and is the successor to the 7nm-based Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2, which was seen in a few Acer and HP notebooks. According to online benchmark tests, the Snapdragon processor reduces the performance gap with Apple’s M1 chip but is still a few notches below it in both single and multi-core performance.

Further, to offer enterprise level security, Lenovo is offering its ThinkShield end-to-end security platform. The Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 has also been integrated with Microsoft Pluton architecture that offers an extra layer of security to protect sensitive data.

“Protection from advanced attacks is a top business priority for today’s hybrid workforce, points out David Weston, Director of Enterprise and IS Security at Microsoft.

“We have integrated the Microsoft Pluton security architecture with the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 compute platform on ThinkPad X13s. This integration will add even more security for identities, data and applications on Windows 11 PCs,” he added.
