Apple has entered the rugged watch territory with the new Watch Ultra, which was unveiled at the iPhone event on Wednesday and will be available in India from September 23. 

The Apple Watch Ultra has a 49mm titanium case, a 1.9-inch OLED display, supports dual-frequency GPS, and claims to have a battery backup of 36 hours, which can be extended to 60 hours on the new low power setting.  

During the unveiling, Apple showed that the Watch can endure extreme environments including snowstorms, high-altitude terrain, and ocean waves. Apple’s chief operating officer Jeff Williams said that the watch has been “inspired” by explorers and athletes. “It’s the most rugged and capable Apple Watch yet,” added Jeff.

It can withstand water up to 10ATMs (100 meters), which makes it can be used for both surfing and diving. Its health tracking features include heart rate variability (HRV) measurement among others.  

Samsung Galaxy Watch 5 Pro

The Galaxy Watch 5 Pro is also Samsung’s poster boy in the adventure watch segment. It has a 1.4-inch display protected by sapphire glass and uses titanium in the casing. It is also water resistant to up to 5ATMs and can eke out up to 60 hours of battery backup. The watch runs on Google’s Wear SO, supports four satellite systems, and can do turn-by-turn route tracking during cycling and hiking.  

Amazfit T-Rex Pro

If you are looking for a rugged smartwatch but do not want to spend so much, Amazfit T-Rex Pro is an interesting option that you can consider. Like all other smartwatches, it is also designed for endurance and can withstand extreme temperatures and rough terrain. It doesn’t have titanium casing or sapphire glass protection but claims to have passed 15 military-grade tests. The watch has a 1.3-inch AMOLED display, supports four global navigation satellite systems, and can muster up to 18 days of battery backup. It is also water resistant to up to 10ATMs, can measure blood oxygen level, and has over 100 sports modes.
