Artificial intelligence and automation will create a demand for 4.7 million new tech jobs, while also creating a need for over 16 million workers in India to reskill and upskill by 2027. This was found in a study conducted by Pearson for cloud solutions provider ServiceNow.

Simultaneously, the country’s digital skill ecosystem is expected to grow with increased demand for roles like application developers (75,000), data analysts (70,000), platform owners (65,000), product owners (65,000), and implementation engineers (55,000) by 2027 to meet the tech deficit.

“AI has strengthened the market dynamics for the technology industry where adoption of emerging technologies has been high. We’re seeing this adoption expand fast across every industry in the country and we will start to see larger-scale talent shifts too,” said Kamolika Gupta Peres, vice president and managing director, ServiceNow India.

“A total of 11,91,600 full-time equivalent tech and non-tech jobs, in Tamil Nadu alone, will be transformed over the next five years. This is why ServiceNow commissioned research into the Indian skills economy — to lay the groundwork for talent, resource and technology success and help every industry transform now with AI and automation.”

A survey by LinkedIn in September, found that about 60% of professionals find it overwhelming to keep up with the developments in generative AI, with close to 40% saying that they may not be able to catch up.

On the flipside, however, 9 in 10 (90%) professionals in India said that they believe AI will be an invisible teammate in the next five years. With their time freed up, many are looking to invest in themselves by learning new skills, focusing on more creative and strategic work, and growing their professional network, all which are strong career boosters, a LinkedIn spokesperson said.
