Asset management company Mirae Asset Global Investments has appointed Nishant Pradhan as the chief artificial intelligence (AI) officer. The former Axis Bank executive announced it through a post on professional networking website LinkedIn.

“Happy to inform that I’ve joined as “Chief AI Officer” at Mirae Asset which is one of the largest independent financial groups in Asia, providing comprehensive services to clients worldwide. Looking forward to making an impact in this innovative firm as well as the larger industry & society by leveraging AI in the right manner,” Pradhan wrote in his post.

Before Mirae Asset, Pradhan was the analytics head for the digital bank arm of Axis Bank. He has also worked with companies like Fidelity Investments, Wipro, Oracle, and Infosys. He also MBA degree holder from Indian Insititute of Management, Bangalore, where he specialised in quant finance, data, and analytics.

Notably, on Wednesday, South Korea-based Mirae also appointed Ryan O’Connor as the chief executive officer of New York-based provider of exchange-traded funds Global X ETFs. The former Goldman Sachs exec will be responsible for driving Global X’s strategy, and guide in improve product suite offering. He will join the role on April 8.

To be sure, the role of chief AI officer is seen as one of the hottest jobs in the market now. Needless to say, the fast paced innovation and adoption of AI has prompted this trend. Last week, an IBM report found that 59% of surveyed large-scale organisations in India actively integrate artificial intelligence (AI) into their business operations. Despite the positive momentum, challenges persist on the path to widespread AI adoption, the survey noted. One of the major hindrances was found to be lack of relevant talent, which stops companies from fully embracing the technology.
