Ericsson, Wipro to modernise Netherland-based Odido's customer billing experience
Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson has joined hands with IT services provider Wipro to complete a billing transformation for Odido, a Netherlands-based telecom brand. The project, finalised in August 2024, involved migrating over five million Odido mobile customers to a cloud-native Ericsson Billing platform, hosted on Amazon Web Services (AWS), marking a significant milestone in Odido’s modernization efforts.
The transformation allows Odido to offer innovative 5G services, including its new Klik&Klaar fixed-wireless access (FWA) solution, while improving operational efficiency and enhancing customer experience. The migration follows the successful transition of 700,000 Ben MVNO users to Ericsson Billing in November 2023.
The project was executed with Wipro as the system integrator, working closely with Ericsson and Odido to ensure a seamless integration into Odido’s IT landscape. This migration reduces technical complexity, improves the customer journey, and lowers operating costs for the telecom operator.
CEO of Odido, Søren Abildgaard, said, “We’ve just done a billing migration with zero faults. A billing migration is like open-heart surgery on a marathon runner while they’re running, and we managed to do that.”
Mats Karlsson, Head of Solution Area Business & Operations Support Systems at Ericsson, said, “This ensures Odido can deliver superior service experiences at scale. Our cloud-native billing platform offers the flexibility and scalability needed for 5G and beyond.”
The new billing system is future-ready, offering enhanced automation, billing accuracy, and scalability. Designed to support collaboration, it allows other system integrators to integrate it into communications service providers' (CSP) IT networks seamlessly. Odido’s transition to the Ericsson Billing platform ensures it is well-positioned for growth in the 5G era.
Earlier this month, Ericsson announced it has secured significant contracts with Vodafone Idea (Vi) to enhance its 4G infrastructure and provide 5G equipment in India. Under these agreements, Ericsson will upgrade Vi's existing 4G network and roll out 5G services in regions where it already has a presence. Additionally, Ericsson will extend its 4G and 5G services to key telecom circles, including Delhi, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan, further strengthening its market position with Vodafone Idea.
In a separate development in September, Wipro announced a partnership with JFK International Air Terminal (JFKIAT), the operator of JFK Airport’s Terminal 4, to develop a cloud-based data strategy using Microsoft’s Azure Data Platform. This AI-powered data analytics solution will centralize terminal data, enabling JFKIAT to continuously optimize its operations and meet its long-term efficiency objectives.
