Birla Opus Paints, a unit of Grasim Industries Ltd. under the Aditya Birla Group, has undertaken an end-to-end digital transformation to architect a modern, agile, and scalable paints business from the ground up.

The company said in a statement on Monday that with a cloud-first approach and SAP’s integrated suite at its core, the company has built a unified digital backbone that powers operations spanning planning, manufacturing, supply chain, distribution, finance, and customer engagement.

The transformation is anchored on SAP S/4HANA Cloud and complemented by solutions including SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP), SAP Commerce, SAP Extended Warehouse Management (EWM), SAP Vistex, and SAP Vendor Invoice Management (VIM). The accelerated deployment—completed significantly faster than industry norms—establishes a cohesive digital ecosystem designed to support the company’s aggressive scale-up strategy.

By building a digital enterprise at inception, Birla Opus Paints makes a strategic departure from traditional, phased transformation approaches that typically evolve over decades. Its cloud-first architecture supports year-on-year 3x growth while enhancing visibility, responsiveness, and precision across operations. The integrated platform provides real-time insights, automated workflows, and unified data access, replacing fragmented forecasting and manual decision cycles.

“Our digital journey has been designed with the customer at the epicentre. Every process, platform, and insight contributes to delivering a seamless experience from day one,” said Girish Rao, Head – IT, Birla Opus Paints. “With SAP’s unified cloud suite, we have created an integrated backbone that brings precision, transparency, and agility to our operations and equips us to scale with confidence.”

The transformation is also aligned with broader industry impact—improving supply chain reliability, distribution reach, and dealer experience. The digital ecosystem supports operations across six Industry 4.0-enabled plants, a nationwide network of more than 150 depots, and over 40,000 dealers.

Key outcomes include unified planning, real-time bottleneck detection, data-driven forecasting, accelerated procurement and warehouse processes, and a pay-as-you-grow model that scales with demand. The connected digital value chain—from procurement to production to dealer engagement—positions Birla Opus Paints to drive continuous improvement and data-led decision-making as it expands in the competitive decorative coatings sector.

Launched in 2024, Birla Opus Paints offers a full decorative paints portfolio across interiors, exteriors, waterproofing, enamels, wood finishes, aerosols, and wall coverings. Backed by Grasim’s manufacturing footprint and the Aditya Birla Group’s scale, the company aims to combine digital-first operations with product innovation to establish a strong position in India’s paints industry.
