India's second-largest IT services major, Infosys, on Thursday announced the expansion of its strategic collaboration with ExxonMobil to develop and deploy its industry-leading suite of ExxonMobil Data Centre Immersion Fluids, which enhances energy efficiency and maximises the use of available power.

The collaboration aims to address one of the biggest bottlenecks in scaling generative AI—cooling and power consumption in data centres. Immersion cooling, which submerges servers in specially engineered fluids, is emerging as an alternative to traditional air cooling, enabling higher compute density and lower energy usage.

Infosys said it will combine ExxonMobil’s Data Center Immersion Fluids with Infosys Topaz, its AI-first suite of services and platforms, and Infosys Cobalt, its cloud offerings, to design and deploy high-efficiency cooling systems. Topaz will enable real-time optimisation of cooling operations, including smarter energy use and predictive maintenance, while Cobalt will provide a secure and scalable cloud foundation for enterprise adoption.

Ashiss Kumar Dash, EVP and Global Head – Services, Utilities, Resources, Energy and Enterprise Sustainability at Infosys, said the expanded engagement marks a key step in scaling next-generation digital infrastructure. “By leveraging Infosys Topaz for real-time AI-driven optimisation and Infosys Cobalt for secure, scalable cloud deployment with ExxonMobil’s advanced energy expertise, we are addressing the urgent need for more efficient high-performance digital infrastructure,” he said.

Dash added that the collaboration has the potential to reduce data centre energy costs and carbon emissions, while helping enterprises scale AI workloads responsibly.

Alistair Westwood, Global Marketing Manager at ExxonMobil Product Solutions Company, said the partnership reflects ExxonMobil’s push to apply its thermal management and energy expertise to the evolving digital infrastructure landscape. “Infosys’ suite of AI and digital services is enabling us to pilot and adopt infrastructure that is smarter, efficient, and more resilient,” he said.

Infosys said the joint solutions will target hyperscalers, global enterprises and public sector organisations across sectors such as financial services, telecom, manufacturing, energy and government.

The announcement comes at a time when AI-driven demand is reshaping enterprise technology budgets. As companies ramp up generative AI pilots and HPC workloads, data centre operators are grappling with soaring energy consumption and sustainability pressures. For IT services firms such as Infosys, infrastructure optimisation and green AI are emerging as new revenue adjacencies beyond traditional application development and maintenance.

Infosys Ltd reported its third-quarter results in Januart posting a sequential uptick in profit and reaffirming its focus on high-growth digital bets, even as it announced an expanded strategic collaboration with ExxonMobil to advance immersion cooling solutions for energy-intensive AI infrastructure.

For the quarter ended December, India’s second-largest IT services exporter said it saw improved deal momentum and steady growth in large transformation programmes, supported by demand for artificial intelligence (AI), cloud modernisation and cost-optimisation mandates. The company said it remains focused on driving operating efficiency while investing in AI-led platforms such as Infosys Topaz and its cloud suite, Infosys Cobalt.
