The two companies plan to co-develop agentic AI solutions tailored to specific industries, combining OpenAI’s AI platforms with TCS’ sectoral expertise and large enterprise client base. Under joint go-to-market efforts, TCS will integrate and scale OpenAI’s technologies for customers in India and overseas, targeting faster AI adoption across industries.

A key pillar of the partnership is infrastructure. TCS’ HyperVault unit will work with OpenAI under a multi-year agreement to develop AI-ready data centre capacity in India. The first phase will see 100 megawatts (MW) of capacity built, with the option to scale up to 1 gigawatt (GW). The facilities are expected to support high-density, liquid-cooled AI workloads and run on green energy.

Beyond commercial initiatives, the partnership includes a social impact agenda. The OpenAI Foundation and TCS will collaborate to provide AI training, resources and technology toolkits to Indian youth and NGOs, with a target of improving the livelihoods of at least one million young people.

Sam Altman, CEO, OpenAI, said, “India is already leading the way in AI adoption, and with its talent, ambition, and strong government support, it is well placed to help shape its future. Through OpenAI for India and our partnership with the Tata Group, we’re working together to build the infrastructure, skills, and local partnerships needed to build AI with India, for India, and in India, so that more people across the country can access and benefit from it.” N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman, Tata Sons, added, “The collaboration marks a major milestone in India’s vision to become a global leader in AI.

TCS set up HyperVault in 2025 to build gigawatt-scale AI infrastructure for hyperscalers and AI-driven enterprises, marking its entry into large-scale digital infrastructure alongside its core IT services business.

In a parallel move, the Tata Group plans to roll out ChatGPT Enterprise across its businesses over the next few years, beginning with hundreds of thousands of employees. India has emerged as one of ChatGPT’s fastest-growing markets, with more than 100 million weekly active users in the country, according to OpenAI.
