Facebook Has 25M Users In India

Of Facebook's 500 million active users, 25 million are Indians.

According to Economic Times, David Fischer, vice president advertising and global operations, Facebook said, "Facebook currently has 25 million users in India." He was speaking at Ad: Tech, the advertising and digital marketing conference being held in New Delhi.

The Google backed social networking site Orkut had 100 million global users, according to Alexa's March 2011 data.

ComScore had recently issued data that revealed that 6.6 million viewers in India were watching videos on Facebook during the month of January 2011.  Interestingly, a recent report by Akamai Technologies on the State Of The Internet showed that the adoption of broadband (>2Mbps) in India as of 2010 was at a mere 4.5 per cent.

The company is also attempting to woo more users by offering freebies like McAfee antivirus software. Facebook recently partnered with Hewlett Packard Co, Dell Inc, Advanced Micro Devices, and Intel Corp to launch the open compute project.
