Twitter hires i-banker Anthony Noto as its CFO; Mike Gupta to look after investments in startups

Twitter Inc. has named former Goldman Sachs executive Anthony Noto as its chief financial officer (CFO). He replaces Mike Gupta, who is now the senior vice president of strategic investments at the company. Earlier, there were rumours that Noto was leaving Goldman Sachs to join hedge fund Coatue Management.

Gupta, who joined Twitter in 2012 from social gaming company Zynga Inc., will oversee a new effort to invest in startup companies.

At Goldman Sachs, Noto was co-heading global telecommunications, media and technology (TMT) investment banking. He had rejoined Goldman Sachs in October 2010, after serving as the National Football League's (NFL) executive vice president and chief financial officer for close to three years. Prior to NFL, he was a research analyst and business unit leader for the communications, media and entertainment equity research team at Goldman Sachs.

He had earlier also worked at companies like Lehman Brothers and Kraft Foods, as well as served as a captain in the US Army as a telecommunications officer. An engineering graduate from United States Military Academy at West Point, he also holds a MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.

There have been significant changes in the leadership of Twitter in the recent past. Last month, Twitter's COO Ali Rowghani departed after clashing with CEO Dick Costolo. Chloe Sladden, vice president of media, also left the company.
