Pune-based electric vehicle manufacturer Kinetic Green has partnered with auto component maker Autoline Industries to jointly develop and market e-cycles.

Under the partnership, Autoline will undertake development of the e-cycle. The auto component maker has a capacity of assembling 1,000 e-cycles per month, which it now expected to grow to 10,000 e-cycles per month. The parts for the e-cycles will be sourced locally.

Kinetic Green has already developed the first two models of e-cycles with Autoline, according to a statement.

The vehicles, which are equipped with lithium-ion batteries, take around three hours to fully charge. They are expected to give a top speed of 25 kmph and a range of 30 km on a single charge.

The detachable battery works just like a mobile phone. The vehicles produced will work on electric-assist principal, which will let a rider choose to save battery by pedalling the bicycle.

The electric vehicle segment is rapidly evolving and the government expects to see six to seven million electric and hybrid vehicles on Indian roads by 2020 under the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan 2020.

“Kinetic’s vision is to bring green mobility to millions and bring a wide range of innovative yet affordable EVs to the Indian mass market. Currently, the Government’s FAME II scheme does not have special support package for e-cycles but we will request them to extend support to this segment,” said Arun Firodia, Chairman, Kinetic Group.

The vehicle is likely to attract students in urban or rural areas, courier deliveries, short-distance delivery needs, hotels and resorts, large Industrial campuses and gated communities.

“We feel that E-Cycles have the potential to make a massive impact on the micro-mobility market as well as to help improve fitness levels of our health-conscious millennial,” said Shivaji Akhade, Promoter and Managing Director, Autoline Industries in a statement released by the firm.

The mico-mobility segment is solving the first and last mile connection problems in India. Shared bikes are popular in urban areas as they help riders navigate traffic. Shared micro-mobility startup Yulu Bikes recently raised $9.5 million in a Series A round led by two-wheeler maker Bajaj Auto.
