Chipmaker Qualcomm and customer relationship management company Salesforce have joined hands to develop a new intelligent connected vehicle platform for the automotive industry. The new platform, announced on January 5, is built on Salesforce Automotive Cloud and the Qualcomm Snapdragon Digital Chassis solution. The platform can be used by automakers, fleet providers, automotive finance groups, and other technology suppliers.

The platform offers tools to customise service offerings across vehicles to “build a fleet of dynamically configurable, software-defined vehicles (SDVs)”. The companies intend to offer better customer understanding to automakers and create new revenue opportunities by accelerating the development of third-party mobility services. These tools also lower recurring costs and provide seamless upgrade path for consumers, a company statement said.

The platform includes a digital twin of Snapdragon Digital Chassis on the automotive cloud for a 360-degree view of customer and vehicle; a vast library for fast and real-time analytics, visualisation, and AI across domains; Snapdragon Car-to-Cloud Connected Services APIs integrated with MuleSoft to build customer-centric applications.

“Through the combination of Salesforce’s solutions and our Snapdragon Digital Chassis Platform, we look forward to providing automakers with the tools to deliver unparalleled personalised experiences while strengthening relationships with the next generation of automotive customers,” said Nakul Duggal, senior vice president and GM, automotive, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc.

“The next revolution for the automotive industry is the rise of software-defined vehicles, and the Snapdragon Digital Chassis serves as a strong foundation for them. We’re excited to work with Qualcomm Technologies to help automakers deliver this new generation of connected car experiences that will fundamentally redefine how we interact with our cars,” said Alex Dayon, President and Chairman of the Salesforce Advisory Board.
